The Local Improvement Scheme Programme of Grants is for Private Roads which serve parcels of land farmed for agricultural purposes.
Eligibility conditions include
- The road must provide access to parcels of lands of which at least two are owned or occupied by different persons engaged in SEPARATE agricultural activities.
- In addition, the roadway must serve an occupied house (occupied as a normal place of residence)
- The Road must be open to the public. All projects must be available for use by members of the public – i.e. access to the roads must NOT be inhibited or restricted. The roadway must remain open to the public at all times. Gated roadways will disqualify application.
Leitrim County Council receive an annual allocation from the Department of Rural and Community Development for Local Improvement Schemes (LIS). Leitrim County Council have a long list of Applicants for the LIS, with currently 110 No. applicants on the LIS waiting list (as of 01.01.2021). Leitrim County Council is utilising the annual LIS grant allocation to progress schemes on the existing LIS waiting list.
Due to the high number of applicants on the existing LIS waiting list, this scheme is NOT currently open to new applicants. Whenever the scheme is opened to new applicants, public notice of the opening of the LIS to new applicants will be given here, on our website and in the local newspapers.
