The Scheme is an initiative under the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development, Realising our Rural Potential, and the recently announced Project Ireland2040, and is designed to help rural Ireland achieve its full economic and social potential. It is part of a package of national and local support measures to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland.

Expressions of Interest for inclusion in The Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2021 was closed on 4th June 2021
The 2021 scheme will place particular emphasis on remote working and enhancing town centres. Projects that support the economic and social recovery of our towns and villages in response to COVID-19 will still be supported. The minimum grant available is €20,000 with maximum grant available €500,000. A new Project Development Measure has been added, with up to €50,000 available.
Selection of projects under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme for 2021 is by means of a competitive process.
