Citizenship/Registration Details

Presidential Electors

To be eligible for registration as a Presidential Elector a person must be:
* 18 years or over on the 15th February in the year in which the Register comes into force
* Ordinarily resident at the address at which you wish to be registered on the qualifying date (1st September in the year preceding
the year in which the Register comes into force), and
* A citizen of Ireland on the qualifying date

A person registered as a Presidential Elector is entitled to vote at ALL Elections and Referenda.


Dail Electors

To be eligible for registration as a Dail Elector a person must be:
* 18 years or over on the 15th February in the year in which the Register comes into force
* Ordinarily resident at the address at which you wish to be registered on the qualifying date (1st September in the year preceding the
year in which the Register comes into force), and
* A citizen of Ireland or a British citizen on the qualifying date

A person registered as a Dail Elector is entitled to vote at Dail, European and Local Elections only and are donated on the Register with a “D” beside their name.


European Electors

To be eligible for registration as a European Elector a person must be:
* 18 years or over on the 15th February in the year in which the Register comes into force
* Ordinarily resident at the address at which you wish to be registered on the qualifying date (1st September in the year preceding the
year in which the Register comes into force), and
* A citizen of Ireland or a national of a Member State of the European Union other than Ireland on the qualifying date

A person registered as a European Elector is entitled to vote at European and Local Elections only and are donated on the Register with an “E” beside their name.

If you are an EU Citizen, other than an Irish or British Citizen, and you were not registered to vote at the 2004 European Elections in Ireland, you must also complete an application form and a declaration Form both of which can be obtained from Leitrim County Council. On receipt of this Application Form and Declaration Form, fully completed, you will be registered to vote in your local constituency and the information in your Declaration will be sent to your home Member State in order to guard against double voting at the election.


Local Electors

To be eligible for registration as a Local Elector a person must be:
* 18 years or over on the 15th February in the year in which the Register comes into force
* Ordinarily resident at the address at which you wish to be registered on the qualifying date (1st September in the year preceding the
year in which the Register comes into force),

A person registered as a Local Elector is entitled to vote at Local Elections only and are donated on the Register with an “L” beside their name. Please note that there is no citizenship requirement in order to be registered as a Local Elector.
