Leitrim County Council is responsible for the preparation of the Register of Electors for the County of Leitrim. The County of Leitrim is divided into four Electoral Areas and these are as follows: -
- Ballinamore Electoral Area
- Carrick on Shannon Electoral Area
- Dromahair Electoral Area
- Manorhamilton Electoral Area
The Register of Electors is updated each year and a new Register comes into force on 15th February each year. Only persons whose name appears on the Register of Electors are entitled to vote in any Elections/Referenda, which may be held during the lifetime of that Register. However, any person(s) who missed out on having their name(s) included in time for publication of the Register may apply to have their name(s) included in the Supplement to that Register. A Supplement is prepared only if an Election and/or Referendum is called.
The Number of persons listed on the current 2011/2012 Register of Electors for County Leitrim is 26,151.
A new Register is prepared each year and being on the existing Register does not guarantee that you will be included in the new Register.
Any person 18 years or over on the 15th February is eligible to be included on the Register of Electors
The Live Register is available for inspection at all Local Authority Offices and public Libraries. It is printed on WHITE PAPER and will be used at elections and referenda from 15th February 2011 to 14th February 2012.
Also, persons may check their details by logging on to E-Reg, the Internet Enquiry System for the Live and Draft Register of Electors. This System allows you to check to see if your name is on the Register of Electors and also allows you to check that your Registration Details are correct. If there are any errors or ommissions in the Register of Electors please complete Form RFA 1 (Bilingual) and return it to Corporate Services, Leitrim County Council, Aras an Chontae, Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim on or before 25th November 2011.
