Do you have any ledgers, photographs, maps or family papers that you think may be of interest? If so, you should consider depositing them in Leitrim County Library, where there is now an Archives Service to look after them.
What are archives?
Archives are primary sources. They are evidence of human activity, worthy of long-term preservation. They come in various formats and media including paper, parchment and vellum, electronic records (e.g. on computer discs), maps, plans, photographs, drawings, sound recordings and film.
Archives in Leitrim
The archives service is committed to providing public access to such material and assisting researchers of all kinds.
The archives service is at an early stage of development and much of its holdings have yet to be processed (cleaned, arranged and listed). However, some important material is available to the public and may be consulted via the local studies section in Ballinamore Library. As collections are processed, the catalogues will be made available in Ballinamore Library and on this website.
