Do you want to do a course in Carrick on Shannon? Leitrim Third level Initiative is a project whereby courses are offered in Leitrim from a range of colleges. The courses are linked to job skills and are identified with the help of local business and prospective students. Leitrim Third Level Initiative began in 2004 offering the first MBA in the North West in conjunction with Fermanagh College and John Moore College in Liverpool. Lectures are delivered in either the County Council Offices, the Dock or other facilities in the town centre. Courses on offer in 2012 in Carrick on Shannon are:

Duration:3 Saturdays (28 April, 12 May, 26 May)
Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm
Course Aim: To teach participants the key publicity skills practiced by PR professionals so that they can maximise media exposure for their company, project, product or organisation.
Participants: This course will appeal to people who work for smaller companies, charities, voluntary and sporting bodies who want to learn how to generate publicity. It is useful for people working in advertising or marketing who want to find out exactly what PR people do, and it is very beneficial for anyone who is thinking of starting a degree in this area, and wants to be sure that they are studying the right course.
Course Content: Public Relations, Exhibitions, Press relations, Sponsorship, Photography, Organising functions, Crisis PR, Role of the press officer and Newsletters.
Tutor: Ellen Gunning MA, MIAPR, FPRII, NUJ, is an author, broadcaster, public relations consultant and educator. She is the director of the Irish Academy of Public Relations. Ellen has handled some of the largest PR campaigns in the country, including The Kerrygold Dublin Horse Show, National Energy Awareness Week and a Presidential campaign.
She is the author of ‘Public Relations – A Practical Approach’, published by Gill & Macmillan (second edition 2007), and “Capital Women of Influence”, published by Liffey Press, 2009. She is a former National Chairperson (Ireland) of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland.
Fees:The fee for this course is €390. The course text is available at the student price of €43.
Examination:This course is examined by three written submissions.
Award:Certificate in Public Relations & Publicity Skills is awarded by the Irish Academy of Public Relations.
