

Leitrim Third level Initiative gives you an excellent opportunity to get a third level qualification in Carrick on Shannon. Courses are offered from a range of colleges. The courses are linked to job skills and are identified through the advice of local agencies and prospective students. Leitrim Third Level Initiative began in 2004 offering the first MBA in the North West in conjunction with Fermanagh College and John Moore College in Liverpool. Diploma in Event Management
Course Aim: To equip students with the knowledge and ability to organise functions on their own behalf, or on behalf of their employers or clients.
Course Content: Principles of project/event management, establishing viability, the project brief.
Preparing a proposal, publics and objectives, timescale, budget and evaluation.
Crisis management for sports events, seeking a sponsor and making a pitch for business
Organising the event, marketing tools, presentations
Media tools – press releases, photo-calls, press packs
Staffing and compliance, project review and evaluation
Assessment: There will be final project to be submitted within 2 weeks of course completion.

Certificate in Journalism
Course Aim: To equip students with a knowledge of journalism and the way the media works.
Course Content: Journalism, News reporting, Writing feature articles, Writing for newsletters, Colour writing, Interviewing techniques, Legal Issues, Use of language, Sourcing the news, How the Media works.
Tutor: Ellen Gunning MA, MIAPR, FPRII, NUJ, is an author, broadcaster, public relations consultant and educator. She is the director of the Irish Academy of Public Relations. Ellen has handled some of the largest PR campaigns in the country, including The Kerrygold Dublin Horse Show, National Energy Awareness Week and a Presidential campaign.
She is the author of ‘Public Relations – A Practical Approach’, published by Gill & Macmillan (second edition 2007), and “Capital Women of Influence”, published by Liffey Press, 2009. She is a former National Chairperson (Ireland) of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland.
Fees:The fee for this course is €390. The course text is available at the student price of €43.
Examination:This course is examined by three written submissions.
Award:Certificate in Journalism is awarded by the Irish Academy of Public Relations.

Course Aim: To acquire the basic knowledge and skills needed to grow and maintain a variety of Herbs, Fruit, Vegetables and Plants. Students will also develop a basic understanding of Garden Design, Lawn care, Pest and Disease control, and propagation techniques.
