The first Leitrim CDB Interagency soccer tournament took place on October 20th 2009. The tournament was aimed at promoting further interagency work between the agencies involved in Leitrim CDB. The idea came through the SIMS Group in the CDB Strategic Plan 2009-2012.
Forty people took part in the event which took place in Aura Leisure Astro Turf pitches in Carrick on Shannon. There were five teams with people from different agencies and from local business mixed across each team. The agencies represented in 2009 included: Leitrim Development Company, Teagasc, An Garda Siochana, Leitrim County Council, VEC and Dunnes. The coaches from the Goal to Work programme helped to add even more expertise to each team!
Following some very competitive, low tackling but high intensity performances ..the winners emerged aptly named "The Conquerors" . The Conquerors comprised of Patrick Gowing (Teagasc), Paul Hamilton (VEC/LDC), Paul Ferguson (Goal to Work), Tom Dooner (An Garda Siochana), Michael Keegan (Dunnes). Medals were presented to all participants and the Leitrim CDB Interagency Tournament Trophy was presented to Packie Bonnar at a BBQ event in Dunnes afterwards.
