The Community and Enterprise Department of Leitrim County Council was established in 1999. The primary function of the Department at the time was the establishment of the County Development Board, which consists of representatives from Local Government, Local Development Bodies, Statutory Agencies and Social Partners. The role of the Board is to co-ordinate the activities of the agencies at local level. The work of the County Development Board has now expanded to include a variety of other projects which are detailed below. Leitrim County Development Board
The County Development Board oversees the implementation of projects in the Social, Economic and Cultural Development Strategy for Leitrim. The County Development Board held its first meeting in May 2000. The 10 year Strategy was launched in June 2002 and the process of implementation commenced immediately. The Board use “Project Vision” as the project management software to facilitate the management of the implementation process. The Board is reviewed how the 10 year Strategy was being implemented during 2005. Following this a 3 year Action Plan 2006-2008 was developed at the request of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. This Action plan has 6 projects in economic development, 7 projects in social inclusion and 4 projects in cultural development.
