Individual Artist Bursary Programme 2011/2012

Individual Artists Bursary

Eligibility - Individual artists from any discipline

Closing Date - 4pm Friday 28 October 2011

The Individual Artists Bursary programme is designed to further the development of individual artists from any arts discipline. Bursaries can be for any purpose that will demonstratively contribute to an artist’s development. Among such purposes, the scheme may be used to offset the expenses of the following –

  • Participation in ad-hoc education such as mentoring, research or short-term courses.
  • Development of new work for exhibition, publication or presentation.
  • Participation in conventional part-time or full-time education where other sources of public funding are unavailable.
  • Contribute to the removal of existing barriers to an artist’s development.

The value of the awards rises to a maximum of €2,000.

While there is no fixed number of awards, there is generally a larger number of lesser value bursaries and a small number of maximum value ones. Bursary amounts depend on available resources, number of applicants and the quality of applications.

The activity for which the artist wishes to apply must commence between October 2011 and 31 December 2012.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 4pm, Friday 28 October 2011. Late applications will not be considered.

Applicants must have been born or currently live in County Leitrim.

Bursaries will be paid only after proof of activity commencing has been submitted. This may take the form of copy of receipt of equipment or course fees, letter from the host of an activity or other more appropriate verification agreed with the Arts Office.

Completed application forms must be accompanied by artists C.V. images/recordings etc. of previous work and details/supplementary information about the subject of the application.

Information submitted will only be returned if a stamped addressed envelope is submitted along with the application. If an SAE is not supplied, it is presumed that return of the information supplied is not required.

Applications are assessed using the following criteria –

  • Track record of artist (or potential for an emerging artist)
  • Proven commitment to high quality arts practice
