Update on flooding and road conditions 31st December, 2015.

Flood waters remain at the following locations:

Carrick on Shannon:

·         N4 between the Townspark & Tesco Roundabout

·         R280 Leitrim Road Carrick-on-Shannon at Hartley Turn 

·         Park Lane Carrick-on-Shannon

 Leitrim Village:

·         R280 at Leitrim Village

·         R284-1 Keadue Road

·         L -3390-0 Church Road


·         R299 Kiltoghert Co-Op


·         Mohill: Lough Rynn Road LP-1053-1 and LP-1053-4 (Access to Lough Rynn Hotel VIA Farnaught & Gortletteragh / Tooman)

Diversions are in place on the N4 Carrick-on-Shannon and Lough Rynn Road, Mohill.  Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when entering flood waters and use of alternative routes is recommended.

Leitrim County Council will continue to monitor the situation and maintain flood defences. Further updates will be provided if there is any additional change in status in relation to road closures or diversions.

Safety for Motorists and Pedestrians: An Garda Síochána have stressed that motorists should drive in a manner that matches the road conditions. Motorists are advised to plan routes in advance noting diversions that are in place. Cyclists and Pedestrians are asked to wear high visibility clothing to ensure that they are visible to other road users.

New Years Eve Events: Event organisers are asked to take account of local weather and flooding conditions and to exercise common sense when considering whether to run events for New Year’s Eve.

Care of the Elderly: People are reminded again to check isolated and vulnerable neighbours, assist with household requirements and prescription medicines.
