Minister Kelly Announces new €40 million Fire Service Capital Programme 2016 - 2020

Mr Alan Kelly, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government has announced details of a new €40m programme of construction / refurbishment of 26 fire stations for the five year period 2016 - 2020.

In County Leitrim the programme will see a new fire station construction project in Manorhamilton expected to go to tender in 2019 along with station upgrades in Ballinamore and Drumshanbo during the lifetime of the programme.

This programme is in addition to the Minister’s recent approval of 20 new fire appliances for 16 fire authorities under a 2015 joint procurement programme which will include a new fire engine for Carrick on Shannon. This programme will take three years to complete at an estimated total cost of €8 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Frank Curran Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council said that "This is a welcome and significant investment in fire service facilities in County Leitrim". Chief Fire Officer Finian Joyce also welcomed the announcement and ongoing commitment to Leitrim Fire Service.
