Fairtrade Fortnight 2015 will run from 23rd February to 8th March. Fairtrade supporters are asked to join this year’s international campaign The Power Of You and help to re-imagine the simple truth that choices and actions we make can create a real difference in the lives of people who work very hard for very little reward, in order to bring us some of our favorite treats.
The Carrick on Shannon Steering Committee will be hosting an awareness event in the Market Yard on Thursday February 26th 2015 as part of Fairtrade Fortnight. Chief Adam Tampuri from Ghana, who is Chairman of the Fairtrade-certified Gbankuliso Cashew Farmers Association, which represents 800 cashew nut smallholders, will be speaking and all are welcome to attend and hear how supporting Fairtrade can make a huge difference to the lives of others in less well off places in the world. A product that is Fairtrade certified carries a label, the FAIRTRADE Mark.
The Fairtrade Steering Committee continues to work to maintain awareness and involve local businesses and the local community in the Fairtrade campaign. By choosing to support Fairtrade, the community can add its voice to demands for a trade system that puts people, not profit, at the heart of the transaction.
Carrick on Shannon was designated a Fairtrade town in 2010.
Fairtrade Steering Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses and customers who continue to support this worthy cause.
Today you have the power to do something amazing. The power to help farmers build better futures for themselves, and improve working conditions around the world
