LEITRIM COUNTY COUNCIL
UPDATE REGARDING FLOODING IN COUNTY LEITRIM
9th Dec 2009 at 15:30hrs
Flood levels have now receded and practically all roads have now fully reopened including the N4 Carrick on Shannon at Tesco, Quay Street, Carrick on Shannon, Park Lane, Carrick on Shannon and Leitrim Road, Carrick on Shannon.
The car parks at the Quays Area in Carrick on Shannon remain closed. In light of this, and the extreme difficulties that businesses in the locality experienced as a direct result of the recent flooding, parking charges throughout the town have been lifted for the period up to Christmas. In order to ensure that this initiative is of the best possible benefit to customers and businesses alike, parking bye-laws will be strictly enforced in relation to any illegal parking and people are requested not to use the town centre area for long term or all-day parking.
In addition to the R280 through Leitrim Village, Church Road in Leitrim Village and the Road from Leitrim Village to Battlebridge (R284) have also now reopened. The road from Battlebridge to Drumleague, along the canal remains closed however.
Motorists are also advised that flooding remains on a number of local roads, particularly on the LP 3657 at Drummaunroe and LP 3655 at Ballynacleigh in the Carrick on Shannon Area. The LP3397 - Fenagh to R208 - is now passable with care.
Traffic lights and the 10 tonne weight restriction remain in place at the minor road slippage at two locations on the R283 Manorhamilton to Kiltyclogher Road at Tawnyunshinagh and Lissinagroagh Townlands. HGV’s are prohibited from using this road and are requested to travel via N16 and R281 (Glenfarne to Kiltyclogher). The road is passable at these locations but motorists are requested to exercise extreme caution.
