Leitrim PEACE IV Launch Building Positive Relations Project


The Leitrim County PEACE IV Support Programme for the Minority Christian Faith Community was launched at a Christmas Concert in the Church of Ireland in Manorhamilton on 10thDecember.

This project aims to increase awareness and understanding of the various Christian faiths within the County and to build the capacity of Minority Christian Communities to become more active in the community and voluntary sector. The project will include a series of Cross Community Events and Activities that brings all faith communities together, to break down barriers and build better interfaith relations between different faith communities/church groups

Toni Ogle, Development Worker on the project welcomed everyone to the event and thanked the Church Leaders for inviting her to launch the programme at the Christmas Concert. The Church opened its doors to the public for wonderful evening of musical entertainment from the Fermanagh Concert Band and a spectacular performance from local singer Michael Donaghy, light refreshments were kindly provided by the Church volunteers.

The PEACE IV programme is funded through the European Union, the Northern Ireland Executive and the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government and has been designed to promote peace and reconciliation across Northern Ireland and the border counties. The Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) is the managing authority for this programme with responsibility for its implementation and delivery.

Toni outlined the programme of events that will take place over the next 2 years under this project including the development of community ‘PEACE’ gardens, Church bell ringing workshops, Faith Learning workshops and Interfaith Church tours, Cross Community Festivals, Choral Events, Singing workshops, Community based training and Capacity building workshops. She encouraged everyone to participate in any of the project workshops or events that will be advertised throughout the course of the programme.
