SLR Film Development Project

SLR Film Development Project

As part of a new partnership Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils have come together with filmmakers from the three counties with a view to enabling the film sector here to grow and develop.

Each of the three local authorities involved in this project recognise the value of film as an artform and the contribution that film can make to the region - socially, culturally and economically. In adopting a regional approach, we recognise that we can achieve a lot more by harnessing the capacity, resources and energy of agencies and practitioners of all three counties.

We are currently in the process of redeveloping a website for the project (www.slrfilm.eu) which will be launched in the near future. While the website will serve as the point of informaiton for external film companies wishing to make films here, its primary focus will be to support filmmakers based in the three counties.

As part of that, for 2018, we have introduced two new bursary programmes for filmmakers based in Sligo, Leitrim or Roscommon.

The closing date for both opportunities is 30th June 2018.

Film Collaboration Bursary

As one of the principal aims of the project is to support the professional development of those working in the sector and to support the development of new work, this new bursary for a filmmaker and writer to collaborate in the development of a new project. The purpose of this is to encourage practitioners to work together and learn from each other and to seed the development of new ideas that may be made into films in the future. Concepts for film projects in any context or genre will be accepted.

Film Completion Award

This new award is for an individual filmmaker or film company to apply for funding to complete a project already commenced. The purpose of this is to support the careers of ambitious filmmakers, particularly emerging filmmakers and to support work with a strong cultural or progressive impact and filmmaking that takes risks on talent, form and content, where the more commercial sector cannot.
