We have a wealth of food products in the Upper Shannon Erne Region of Cavan, Leitrim, Longford & Roscommon from Artisan producers to larger companies, many of whom are already household names. We are also very lucky to have wonderful people who use these local produce on a daily basis such as hotels, restaurants and of course the shops who stock them.
Under the Upper Shannon Erne Future Economy project the regional food group brought together businesses of varying sizes within the sector which resulted in identifying an opportunity for mentoring. We now work closely with larger scale companies like Aurivo, a globally focussed agrifood business, to provide a mentoring support programme to smaller food producers in the region. The Upper Shannon Erne initiative has meant that large scale companies like Aurivo and Lakesland Dairies are able to provide invaluable advice and support to smaller food producers in areas such as social media, distribution, meeting the retailer etc.
Mentoring Support from Aurivo
The last regional food group meeting took place on the 12th of June 2015 in Lanesborough, Co. Longford. The meeting was well attended and the topics up for discussion on the day related to social media and meeting the retailer. Lydia Rogers, Aurivo Communications & Brand Manager gave a fantastic presentation on social media and Seamus Hannon, National Account Manager with Aurivo presented on dealing with retailers which was very informative. FREE Healthy Food Innovation Conference in County Leitrim - 14th October 2015
On Wednesday 14th October, a free food innovation conference in County Leitrim brought food providers and buyers together with experts, to develop counties Cavan, Longford, Roscommon and Leitrim as a healthy and creative food region while supporting local enterprise diversity and innovation. No small mission, but a valuable one. The event programme included a spotlight on distribution, learning from others and it focused on financing innovation (always an important topic as there are funding opportunities you could be availing of!).
Supported by Nourish EU, a European project which stimulates the development of food regions, the Upper Shannon Erne Future Economy Project, the Local Enterprise Offices of the region and Aurivo, the leading food co-operative embarking on innovative healthy food initiatives; this networking and showcase event delivered advice and expertise, but also highlighted real life case studies and provided practical solutions to the problems commonly encountered by small to medium rural enterprise. Attendees explored creative ways to produce, market and distribute healthy food, while meeting like-minded entrepreneurs and buyers, and of course, sampling some of the innovative and healthy foods on offer in the region.
