Leitrim County Council Leitrim County Council
Leitrim County Council was established under the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898, with the first meeting held on April 22nd, 1899. It is one of 29 County Councils in the Republic of Ireland and is responsible for the administrative area of County Leitrim, delivering a wide range of services necessary to the physical, economic, social and cultural life of the county.
In accordance with the Irish system of local government, which encompasses both democratic representation and public administration, Leitrim County Council as a local authority performs both a representational and operational role.
The County Council makes its decisions by Resolution at its monthly meetings. The County Manager and his staff perform the operational role of Leitrim County Council. They are responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Council. The functions carried out by the County Manager are called "executive functions".
Services are provided for members of the public by the various Departments of Leitrim County Council which are standard to all Local Authorities. A full listing of all our services and a brief description of our main services is availalble on the Services A-Z page.
